Our Values

Little Sistahs in the Know, Inc. is committed to upholding the following values as it pursues its mission:

  1. Dignity/Self-pride. Little Sistahs in the Know believes that its members should have a great sense of worth and be proud of who they are. As an organization, it strives to instill a feeling of dignity in each girl it serves.
  2. Discovery. Little Sistahs in the Know believes in creating an atmosphere where the girls can explore their rich heritage and culture, discovering new and exciting facts about who they are and where they come from.
  3. Leadership. Little Sistahs in the Know believes in providing opportunities for the development of strong leadership skills in its members. The organization’s directors and volunteers will demonstrate effective leadership by empowering and encouraging one another and those they serve.
  4. Respect. Little Sistahs in the Know believes that its members, directors, and volunteers are to be treated with the utmost respect -- honesty, integrity, and fairness. Additionally, the organization wants its members to have a deep respect for themselves and for others.
  5. Encouragement. Little Sistahs in the Know believes that a major responsibility of the organization is to inspire girls with courage, spirit, and hope. It will encourage them to believe in themselves and motivate them to encourage one another.
  6. Confidence. Little Sistahs in the Know believes that by providing confidence-building activities, it will equip its members for a variety of opportunities within the community at large and for the various challenges they may encounter.
  7. Friendship/Community. Little Sistahs in the Know believes that by providing a forum in which girls of similar backgrounds and experiences can interact intellectually and socially, it will foster lifelong friendships. Additionally, it is the organization’s desire to create a sense of community among its members and their families.
  8. Cultural Traditions. Little Sistahs in the Know believes that the vitality and importance of cultural traditions will be emphasized through literary study and the practice of those traditions.
  9. Familiarity and Trust. Little Sistahs in the Know believes that an informal social format of meetings will yield a sense of familiarity among its members, providing them comfort and a sense of freedom. The organization will make it a priority to foster relationships built on trust by creating a safe, secure, and relaxed environment for its members and their families.
  10. Communication and Collaboration. Little Sistahs in the Know believes that by ensuring open and honest communication among directors, volunteers, and members, and by welcoming opportunities to collaborate and partner with community resources, the organization will preserve its original core values.
